Running any program that will protect your computer also protects other computers. Even if you only access your email with a web-based program, you are still vulnerable. Viruses and spyware can get on your computer just by browsing the web. If you ever open an attachment on an email, or save an attachment you are vulnerable to viruses. If you ever send an attachment, you are potentially infecting someone else's computer.
There are free anti--virus programs that will protect your computer and protect others. Try www.avast.com .
Even though you may not want to put the software on your computer, you should put an antivirus program on there to protect others from viruses...

You never have to have one, true ...

You can still get a virus. If you download any attachments you are succeptable to them. If you view web pages with any active content, etc.

You might want to have one to be safe. Grisoft has a free one, AVG it's pretty good. If you see one that charges, keep looking there's a free version works good.
