Many factors can cause slow response from a PC. The first usual suspects are 1. A slow processor, 2. Too little RAM installed 3. Slow video hardware if you are running a lot of games or animation.

If the PC ran fine originally but has slowed down since, thwen there are an additional group of suspects:

1. Hard drive filling or fragmented - try to have at least %30 free disk space and defrag occasionally.

2. Other processes taking too much processor time - spyware, viruses, even windows indexing run amok, all these things can slow your system to a crawl. I have even seen people load several freeware anti-spyware programs along with multiple antivirus programs. These things each take processor cycles.
Look at your task manager screen to list everything that is running, google the names of processes that you don't recognize, and remove things you don't wanr or need. There may be perfectly fine utilities running - real studio notifying you of new products, the control SW for a camera that you tossed away months ago, the intellipoint SW for your mouse, etc; lots of stuff to get rid of.

First of all, if you have an antivirus from Symantec (Norton) or Mcafee running in your computer, this could be the problem. Second , if your computer doesn't have an anti virus or your anti virus is expired, is like not having one and probably your computer could be infected with viruses or spyware, this could really slow down your computer. Third, check your processor speed. Fourth, check in task manager and see whats running like crazy in the process area, if you see any of the process with a number going up and down, this could be it.

If you PC was performing okay in the past a strong suspicion is that the hard drive is heavily fragmented.
Try running the MS defrag utility.

Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > defragment

You should run this about once a week.

Hope this helps.

You can delete unnecessary files, such as cookies, histories, and temporary internet files. If you have executable downloads they will surely gobble up at lot of space too.

Your processor speed would be the most important factor in Windows boot speed.
