How can nipple stimulation induce labor and does it work? If it does work how (twisting them?)do you stimulate the nipples and for how long? I'm desperate. I would rather not have to drink castor oil, that kinda scares me.

Please stay away from the castor oil, it really isn't advised. When the niplles are stimulated it causes a stimulation of the uterus which causes contractions. This is helpful in breastfeeding because it helps the uterus return to normal after birth and it also helps the uterus clamp down on the the blood vessels after birth reducing the risk of hemorrhaging. I know you are probably very uncomfortable, been there and done that, but please just let nature take it's course. If you want to do something, just do a lot of walking and stay hydrated. When it's time it'll happen. Take care and good luck!

nipple stimulation releases prostglands I dont reccomend this it can be very dangerous, and well to be honest I have tried along with about 20 other pregnant friends and it never worked but if it does it can be painful and dangerous to the baby. The only thing I got out of it was sore nipples &major cramps- like contractions but they were false which was worse than real contractions :P

Castor oil isnt that bad taste like crayons LOL mix it with soda it makes it easier... Nothing will work unless your body is ready to be in labor, I tried everything with my second child I mean everything from stripping membranes to castor oil just threw up for 6 hours straight and then did it all again the next day and he came at 42 weeks, I started trying to go into labor at 37... They say your body has to be ready... If you are at 37 weeks ask your doctor to strip your membranes or just flat out say Im ready, if the doctor thinks the baby is ready he will induce you.

Not recommended for everyone. Please ask your doctor before you try anything, what works for some might injure others.

I had intimate relations with my husband up until the birth of our baby and it never induced labor. Nipple stimulation usually doesnt cause labor to begin and most doctors wont want you to use caster oil which will make you sick to start labor because it can leave you severly dehydrated. Walking does help and so does eating hot pepper but not for the same reason as the castor oil. I know it is hard to wait and it can be painful but your doctor knows best and may be willing to induce your labor safely at the hospital where he can monitor you and your babys heart beat and rate and all. I am very hopeful for you and your healthy baby. Good luck

I have some information that may pertain to your question. Nipple stimulation causes your body to believe that you are ready for breastfeeding therefor ready for baby. It sends oxytocin to your uterus and can cause contractions.

You should only do this on the advice of a physician for a few reasons. He will show you how to do this properly, he will tell you if it is now safe for your child to be born and he will instruct you on how often and of the duration. Oxytocin is what they inject you with to induce you, if you have too much of this going to your uterus then it can cuase contractions constrict too much on the uterus and therefor more painful then typical contractions and it can actually cause your uterus to rupture. While this is highly unlikely it is a possiblity and can be very serious even deadly to you and your child.

Secondly, castor oil. Be afraid be very afraid. This can also be deadly to your unborn baby. It can cause your baby to have a bowel movement in your uterus. Therefor the baby will take in the feces and typically "breath" it into the lungs causing your baby stress, added days spent in hospital on oxygen in incubation etc. It's not worth the risk factors involved.

If you are going to try any home induced methods on induction I would suggest lots of sex (no condoms) sperm contains pitocin, Walking, hot water bottles on the breasts help but again some of the same risk factors that I listed may be involved.

Good Luck and I hope all goes well for you and baby!

I have never heard of the nipple stimulation, but I can give you some pointers. The things that work best to have that baby soon is lots of walking, sex, more sex, and more sex! (SMILE) I hope this works for you. It worked for me X4 And it was doctor prescribed.
