It depends what you mean by "best". The front loaders are the most energy efficient and use the absolute least amount of water, but they cost you more in the short term. Some of the top loaders have no center agitator and they are good because they fit more clothes so you are using less energy again. They all get clothes pretty clean these days. The Frigidaire front loader is the best for the money, which I determined from several months of research, but I did have to have the control board replaced on the dryer (no cost, under warranty). One thing to be aware of is that the new front loaders can wash 3.5 cubic somethings of wash, but no dryer can handle that amount without a lot of wrinkling, so be aware that you will have to wash and then dry in two separate loads.

The ones that require HE wash for the washer. They spin fast enough to make your clothes soaken, but not the kind that keep them wet where that they would drip. And the dryer needs to be the kind that spins fast. We have those at home. They work the best for the least amount of time, about an hour and/or 45 minutes. I think you should go to Lowe's and ask about Mays or something that starts with M because they do the best.
