I have a black lab/great dane and my brother was taking him out for a walk. While on this walk a guy was runner towards my brother and the dog felt threatened and jumped up and bit this guy? Well now my parents have to give up the dog and i live in another city and i want the dog... i really don't believe that he'll bite again. But my parents cant renew the homeowners insurance with the dog on the property. Should they really have to put him down or do you think i can take him and he can live with me?

If you truly believe that the dog perceived there was some threat to your brother then I would suggest keeping the dog yourself as long as you can keep it somewhere where others would not potentially be hurt by it in case it may act out again. I recommend keeping it on a chain outside when it needs to use the bathroom or a fenced in yard as opposed to walking it. Sometimes the dog will end up doing it again and sometimes not. It really depends on the animal and it's personality.

My parents had a dog that attacked my mother. They gave it away to someone else thinking that the dog did it innocently and he went on to bite a little boy. Needless to say he got put to sleep...

OMG!! i am so sorry. if the guy has to go to the hospital he will probably be put down or under strict conditions. okay i have had experience and ill tell u the story. 1 yr ago my great dane was just playing around and jumped on my friend and bit her on accident and it was bad and she had to go to the hospital and then my doggie had to be taken away. and they said that he would have to be in a small pen concrete bottomed fenced full around eve on top or put down and so we had to let him go because that was cruel to him to put him in a pen and so i was so sad i didnt go to skool for a month and i am crying just thinking of it and i totally feel your pain and if you want to talk to me you can IM me at pinkpepsichick1224@yahoo.com or email me too. and the saddest thing about it was we raised him from birth and yeah. Good Luck to you i wish u the best, sorry about what happend. but that is weird that it was a great dane and mine was a great dane because usually great danes are not aggressive.

You can't really be sure he won't bite someone again, and you could end up facing a lawsuit. I know you love your dog but he really does present a danger...by his breeding, I'm guessing he's a bit bigger than a Yorkie.
You're the one who has to ultimately make this decision Dear, but if you do decide to keep him, I'd muzzle him when you walk him.

You should be able to take him, but keep him away from people, especially runners. It's good to have a protective dog.
