On the computer upstairs do the following:

Click Start
Click Run
type cmd.exe (press enter)
In the black box that appears type:

ipconfig /release

Shut the computer down
Do the same to the computer downstairs.
Afterwards turn on one computer at a time and let it boot fully into Windows.

It sounds to me like you need to set your Network Connection to get it's IP address dynamically, using DHCP. To do this, use the following procedure:

Click Start - Control Panel
Double Click Network Connections
Right-Click Wireless Network Connection
Click Properties
In the list, click 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)'
Click 'Properties'
Ensure that 'Obtain IP Address Automatically' is checked
Ensure that 'Obtain DNS server address automatically is checked

This will most likely solve the problem, but if you still find that you're getting the message, repeat the same procedure on the other computer.

The conflicting IP addess message typically appears when one computer has been manually assigned an IP address in that control panel, but the IP address is the the range of addresses that the DHCP server in your router wants to issue to your computers. Because one of them is manually configured, the router doesn't know not to hand that address out. Hence, the IP address conflict.

Good luck!

exciting issue. I used to paintings in internet help, and this mistake does oftentimes arise while human beings use a on the spot router. i could examine your tcp/ip residences and notice if some thing is stressful coded on your computer. Does Teton use DHCP to allocate IP addresses, or do they use static IP addresses for shoppers? to envision to work out in case you have a stressful coded IP: click 'initiate' and bypass to 'administration Pannel' Open 'community Connections' appropriate click your LAN (community section connection) and bypass to 'residences'. discover TCP/IP interior the checklist of 'This connection makes use of here...' spotlight it and push the 'residences' button. maximum ISPs use DHCP, so if that's the case you will desire to have the radio button crammed in to "acquire IP address immediately'. in case your ISP makes use of static IPs, the radio button would be crammed in to 'Use here IP address' and the fields would be crammed out. you will desire to discover out from Teton how that information would desire to be crammed out, considering you would be able to desire to have an IP address configuration setup in here that selection into out of your previous ISP.

Does your wireless router have a password on it? You should put a password on it, it may be that someone else is connectin to your network, and when they connect they seem to get an ip address that is already taken by you.

Otherwise you will need to manualy configure IP addresses for both of your computers in your router settings and in your network connection settings

Call your provider. Apparently you don't have a Static IP or Permanent IP Address.
