I live in Florida, if you are talking about private residences then we have all the fruit we can handle, it just falls on the ground and rots, you are welcome to come and pick fruit from me and my neighbors anytime. In this neighborhood we have Travelling People who come at the end of the season, they do as k as they clear the trees of fruit to make Sangria.

Well don't go into someones back yard and start pulling fruit off their tree....It depends on who owns the trees, I'm not sure about the rules of the groves, I'm sure you won't end up in jail if you pull one or two off though. Go to any Loveland Groves place, they always have great oranges...

It depends on whos property you're on. Alot of people are stupid about that kind of stuff, but I bet if you asked them they wouldn't mind. You better pick one fast because all the orange groves are coming down and houses are going up!

They get mad. BUT there are a lot of abandoned groves, particularly in central Florida, and that is not so likely to get you jumped on. There is still the trespassing issue though - someone owns the land even if it is essentially abandoned.

Who is they? The orange growers? I am not familiar with how they look (are they like regular farms in fields, where someone could just walk to it from the road?) I always pictured orchards like secluded places in a pasture or something.. lol.
If the city plants an orange tree I'm sure you could pick it... since its public property.. lol

The grower will consider this to be theft, and yes they get VERY mad That fruit is how he earns his living. If you had a back yard garden would you like it if strangers come in your yard and took your fruit and vegetables?

Anytime you take something that doesn't belong to you its called theft, that included oranges on the tree.

you should just knock on the door and ask the people the tree belongs to if they mind if you take an orange. chances are they will not mind if you ask.
