Ask the technician if he can sit on your lap. Keep him busy looking elsewhere. Do NOT let him see the needle. Let him understand that he will be rewarded for being a good boy and cooperating with you. A trip to the park, rent a movie...something he would enjoy. Yes, sometimes bribery is necessary.

Believe it or not YOU are the most difficult aspect of the blood test.
I suggest you leave him in the room with the professionals and tell him you have to go "potty" or something to excuse yourself for a minute. Let the doctors and nurses do the "big brave boy" routine on him and it will be much much easier ON HIM.
I know because I had a strong little boy who had to have them too.
He knew he could sucker me... but not them.
Good Luck and I hope your son is healthy and well.

Ask them to use the needle made especially for children. It's very thin and doesn't hurt as much as a regular size needle.

Dont bribe the kid with candy ..that can lead into a odd little relationship..why dont you just get one, or tell him what it means to get a blood test about all the diseases he could get if he didnt take one...most kids will do something they dont like if it is in the benifit for them but you have to explain it to him on his level

Tell him to sit on his hands, and stay near him unless the doctor says to move.
Bribery (promise them a sweet or a toy) might also work.

Give him a sucker! He will eat it the whole time and not even think about it. Holding him down will make it even worse because that will make him even more nervous.

The only thing I can think of is get one yourself. That will show him there's nothing to worry about, it's not painful, etc.
