I assume you are supposed to factor this
y^2 + 12y + 32
So look at the factors of 32 and see which ones combine to get 12
8*4=32, and 8+4=12, so your answer is (y + 4)(y + 8)

Do need to factor the expression?

First: multiply the 1st and last coefficient (1*32 = 32). find two numbers that give you 32 when multiplied and 12 (middle coefficient) when added/subtracted. The numbers are: 8, 4

Sec: rewrite the expression with the new middle numbers...

y^2 + 8y + 4y + 32

Third: group "like" terms and factor...

(y^2 + 8y) + (4y + 32)
y(y + 8) + 4(y + 8)
(y + 4)(y + 8)
