If rap never had it why is hip hop the second most popular music genre in the world? I agree that rap has gone downhill as of late but so has rock and pop. Most of todays rappers dont have the talent of yesterdays rap ARTISTS(ie Tupac,KRS-One, etc.) At least we can depend on a few artists today like LL Cool J( even though most of his music is geared towards chicks) and Busta (Even though he looks funny with a haircut). Rap going the way of disco?I think not. Like it or not rap is here to stay. Dont you like how how some rock groups are trying to throw some rap in their music?(Linkin Park , Trapt, etc.)

Dude, I totally agree with you. Where are the artists who raised hip hop into a true art form, like Tupac, Lauren Hill, Dre, Wyclef Jean? Guys like these are the ones that need to represent rap. not just a bunch of mindless beats and talking like it is today, where everyone sings about hos, money, and rims. Where's all the emotion, all the angst, all the joy that used to be in it?
And for anyone who couldn't care less about rap today, listen: you've only because you've only been exposed to all of the crunk **** that get nonstop continuous airplay for talking about the same **** over and over again, or for just standing on the sidelines and shoutin' YEAH and OKAY!! Even if you still never like hip hop, at least you'll know that some of the players in the field actually have a little bit of skill and integrity.

OK, OK coming for a woman's point of view, Rap is in a depression. Yes all you see is bling and woman in no clothes (the ones who clam to be "models") But every now and then there my be a song that hits home for you. If you've been in jail before they got something for you, If you have been a fake "blinger" all your life then that's what you will listen to. Rap and hip-hop is about telling a story. Don't get mad if you don't like how they tell it. Something may hit home with you but i haven't been through it so i don't like it and vise versa. I cant down anything because i don't like it, some one else may like it. That's why i say its in a depression. One day it will come out of it. As far as the cat that said its like disco one day its big but the next its not, do your research rap & hip-hop have been around longer then you have been.

I agree I used to like rap back in the 90's but now I can't stand it. I wish I could get paid that much to repeat the same line over and over, swear a little, and call it a hit.

I want to be a Rap Video producer. Here is what I have to do.
Get the rappers in the video to wear a bunch of bling and put in their grills. Wear baggy pants and baseball hats sideways with do-rags underneath.
Get a bunch of fancy cars. Bentley, Ferrari's, and Rolls-Royce's. Rent a house with a big pool. Get a bunch of scantily clad women to dance around.
Every single video is the same. Don't get me wrong, I can watch it all Day. But there is no originality.

word i been tryin to look for questions like this...they need the talented ones back into mainstream especially canibus who's career "ended" because of the battle wit ll cool j, hes now underground. all the talented rappers are in the underground industry > krs one, rakim, kool g rap, freddie foxx, super nat and even wu tang members such as gza..hip hop has been down before 98 but its been worse when 50 cent came in...
"To the British, I'm Ghandi //
To the Japanese, I'm an American pilot flying over Nagasaki //
To the AIDS patient, I'm your last antibody //"-canibus
"You need ten times the enzymes to process one of my rhymes //
You’ve got to rewind every one of my lines //"-canibus
