Andy "Don't take to big off a lead of on me" Pettitte. It could have something to do with him having the best pick off move in baseball.

Pettitte would be least likely mainly because of his great pickoff move to first. I'd say Peavy would be most likely because he's the only one without a solid defensive catcher behind the plate; he also doesn't look that comfortable working out of the stretch and being a right-handed pitcher puts him at a disadvantage because he wouldn't be able to see down the line as well as a lefty pitcher (remember, a righty would have his back towards first base, while a lefty has his towards third). Still, it depends more on who's running, who's catching, and how good of a jump the runner gets off of the base.

Obviously the leftys. Pettite because his motion is the same if he is picking someone off or going to the plate so its impossible to get a lead. Santana may have a decent move but he throws a lot of changeups so with a good jump you may make it on a slow pitch. Then I would steal on Oswalt/Halladay because their delivery.

this is all assuming the catcher has an average arm. Molina I wouldn't steal against if a 16 year old were pitching, but Piazza I would steal if God was on the mound. Also hitters count comes into play. Santana doesn't throw many change-ups with a runner on in a 0-0 or hitters count. It also depends on pitchers tendancy. Someone who throws upper 90s fastballs is hard to go on. But someone who throws a lot of curves etc. and junkball pitchers are very good to go on.

Well it is either Pettitte or Santana - the only 2 lefties in your choices. If you go by Pettitte's 3 best years, he has 11, 17, and 12 pickoffs. That is a total of 40. Santana's best 3 years were the past 3, where he has 12,12, and 9, a grand total of 33. 7 differential. Pettitte has the reputation as well.

My pick: Pettitte. He is a veteran as well, and has the wind up for it.

It would have to be Andy Petitte. He constantly is amongst the league leaders in runners picked off mostly because he's a left hander that uses a boderline "balk" pickoff move to first base. He's left handed, which is a huge advantage since he doesn't have to step of the pitching rubber and can look at the runner the whole time. Back to the "balk move", as a lefty you can't let your front foot cross over the rubber but he'll cross his knee which is technically legal but very deciving to the runner then he has to step within a 45 degree range of first base. He'll step just barely in that limit once again very close to being illegal and again confusing to the runner. With all that factored runners have just stopped trying against him. Hope it helps.

dont run on the lefties, so that means no to andy p and santana.

but between the two of them, people seem to be siding with pettite, but everyone is forgetting that he is older now than he was when he was great at pickoffs, whereas johan is the greatest pitcher in the league. add to that fact that santana delivers the ball faster to the plate and he also has a better catcher.

so no way would i run on johan.

all the rest of you are wrong.

Santana. It would have to be a lefty, so it comes down to Andy and Johan. Santana has got a wicked fast fastball, so I'd go with him as the guy not to steal on. Kenny Rogers in his prime too.

None of the above. Chris carpenter, check out his stats. When they were playing the mets in the playoffs this past fall I remember the announcers saying he had a ridiculous streak of no one stealing on him and molina. Quick delivery to the plate and a catcher with a decent arm.

It would have to be Andy Pettite. He has one of the best pick off moves in baseball. His pick off moves are certainly better than the other pitchers that you mentioned. Pettite is also a left hander which is a huge advantage when it comes to picking off hitters. So, I would have to say Pettite.

Got to go with Pettite. He has one of the most amazing Pick-Off moves I have ever seen from any pitcher I have ever seen. He is one of the most difficult pitchers to study because you never know what he may throw.
