I'm a cheerleader. and everytime i tell somebody that, they always ask me if that's a sport. when I tell them that I think it is, they reply back by saying that it isnt.

My opinion on what is and what isn't a sport is this - If you have to be in good shape to do it well then it's a sport. If you can be the best at what you do and also be in terrible shape then it's not a sport, it's a game...like darts, poker, etc. Why they show poker on ESPN still puzzles me.

So yes, I'd say that what you do qualifies as a sport.

saying cheerleading isent a sport is saying any type of dance isent a sport or skating isent a sport or gymnastics... i think its a sport... i mean cheering in front of ppl game nights is just like practice right,,, you have tournements and so on... its a sport,,,, and i am saying this even though im not a cheerleader... im a volleyball player and some ppl say that its not a sport... but thats usually from ppl that cant play it so just say its just cause you cant do a back handspring thats why you dont think its a sport... its just like gymnastics just add 15 other ppl to the floor and some shouting and there you go

Cheerleaders compete in contests and win trophies and prizes so it is a sport. If the spelling bee is a sport (on ESPN every year) then cheerleading is definitely a sport.

YES because:

1. It can be competitive (cheerleading competitions)
2. It is somewhat physical
3. It is excersize

Well it's original intention was to stir people up into cheering as the name implies. As if any American needed to be encouraged to cheer (for their own team anyhow!) It has now become a discipline for the GIRLS who do it to increase their fitness. No boys do it to my knowledge. I was very sad to see the English were doing it recently. I guess it's the end of real sportsmanship when they start crowing, but hey! that's commercialism! I hope we don't take it up in Australia, we've got enough problem with our own inferiority complex!

Of course it is did you know cheerleading is one of the only SPORTS that uses all you musles!

If you got to train for, then I believe that it is a sport.

im a fellow cheerleader and i know its a sport cuz u use all your muscles and btw screw them nvm what they think!

well most would say yes and others would say no but its true if you train for it and you feel a true sense of pride when doing it then yes it is a sport.

its not a sport, but it doesn't not mean your not an athelete. cheerleaders are athletes, but cheerleading is not a sport.
