Well, even though I was first runner-up in my Spelling Bee contest, I'm an "old timer" as my son calls me, so my recommendation may be as outdated as I am, but here goes. I studied a lot for it. If I can remember correctly, we used to have small "booklets" of words put out by the National Spelling Bee people, and it was just page after page after page of word after word after word that I remembered, or memorized. I also did some of what Mandy Pandy says and that is to remember little diddies's that would help my spelling in general, like the phrase "i before e except after c", and "when two vowels come together, the first one does the talking while the second one does the walking (or is the silent vowel)". And, of course, we had daily or relatively often classroom spelling bee contests which kept us sharp. And, back then, we ALWAYS had to say the word BEFORE AND AFTER we spelled it, so if that rule is still in effect, DON'T FORGET IT!!!! You can lose the entire contest with forgetting that rule, as many people did. I had lots of fun with the National Spelling Bee back then, in the early 1960's. I hope it's as much fun for you as it was for me. Best wishes. God Bless you.

really, even though it may be a bit overused, studying is the best way to go. It also helps if you have a good memory, but that's something that takes a while to change.

Good luck!
