If you are putting jars and seed packets in the basket, put the packets in the jars. Also how about gardening gloves, some hand tools like spade, trowel. A welcome sign for the garden. Plant markers. Maybe some bottles of organic pesticides. A bar of tea tree oil soap to wash her dirty hands. Maybe fill in with some herbal seedlings.

I would label the jars or include some labels in the gift. Pretend like she's planning on selling this. Design cute labels for the canning jars and you never know what will happen from there!
You should also buy her something inexpensive that related to canning but will not actually be useful in the canning process. For example, some cute refridgerator magnets that are like jars, or a year's subscription to a canning or gardening magazine.
Good luck!! You are definitely on the right track!!

Gloves and jar labels are good suggestions. A hand trowel and one of those 3 pronged scratchy things would be good. For inside the jars, well, recipe cards, some bone meal, dried blood, something call RootTone for cuttings, plant food spikes, a little wind chime comes to mind. If you can get some perhaps some bulbs for spring planting. I think its a great idea you have going. She is going to love it.

That is sweet. Yes, try recipes. Try cookie mix (powdered) with recipe inside the jar like just add eggs and water etc. Pancake mix. etc some may contain bath salts with a card that says...after all the hard work of canning relax and take a bath with these soothing salts etc

Okay, tuffy but I think I have something. You could put an apron and pot holders in the basket, and little pieces of packing confetti and cool fortunes in the jars.

Maybe some cute oven mitts and kitchen towels would look cute in the basket. You could even pick out ones with pictures of fruits or vegetables.

How about fresh fruit..strawberries,blackberries or somehing to make homemade jam. add a couple of packs of Sure-jell. She can have her first home-canned goodies in 30 mins. or less. The jam and jelly are real easy and quick.
