A statue of the Little Mermaid sits on a rock in the Copenhagen harbour (at 55°41′34.39″N, 12°35′56.59″E). This small and unimposing statue is a symbol of Copenhagen, and a major tourist attraction. The Little Mermaid statue is only 1.25 meter high and weighs about 175 kg.

its in Langelinie, copenhagen, denmark i thort it was going to be this awsum statue but it was kinda dissapointing - its only a short walk away from the queens palace and its just in the waters edge - u can walk on some rocks to get to it. she's got 2 feet tho - but they are kinda fishy looking - abit weird really.

The Little Mermaid statue was a present from brewer Carl Jacobsen (The Carlsberg Breweries) to the city of Copenhagen, and was made by a little known sculptor called Edvard Erichsen. The Little Mermaid was unveiled at Langelinje in 1913, as part of a general trend in Copenhagen in those days, requiring classical and historic figures to be used as decorations in the city's parks and public areas. In 1909, brewer Carl Jacobsen saw solo dancer Ellen Price dance in Fini Henriques' ballet "The Little Mermaid" at the Royal Theatre. He was so taken with her that he asked her if she would pose for a sculptor. She agreed in principle, but was not very interested in posing without any clothes on, when she found out just how publicly the statue would be placed. So Edvard Erichsens wife stepped in and modeled for the body. On September 14, 1912, the Little Mermaid statue was first placed at a test location, and on August 23, 1913, it was finally placed at its permanent location. The Little Mermaid symbolizes the fairy tale by Danish author and poet Hans Christian Andersen.

At the age of 15, the little Mermaid for the first time swims to the surface of the sea, where she fell in love with the Prince she saved from drowning.
she sold her voice to the witch of the sea in exchange for legs - which felt like walking of knives.
She was supposed to win the Prince and an imortal soul but She didn't get her Prince, but was transformed into sea foam (which is what happens to a mermaid when they die).

she weighs 175kg and is 1.25 m tall

i just realised that its the same sorta story as the little mermaid cartoon - cept she gets the prince

Little Mermaid statue is in Langelinie, Copenhagen. It was put up in 1913. In the 60's and 70's she was vandalised, her head got chopped off, her arm chopped off (later returned!), and then smeared in blue paint. But she is still there in one piece today!.

She weighs approx 175kg.
