There is only one native shark, Squalus acanthias, the spiny dogfish. Other sharks have been recorded but do not live year round or breed in the Black Sea- these are just accidental visitors. The temperature gets too low for Mediterranian species and the salinity is much lower.

There are sharks in the Black Sea just as there are in every sea. The second largest fish, the basking shark, is found in the Mediterranean so it is entirely likely that it is found in the Black Sea as well.
