The only other part I can remember is the adventuring group went to a blind wizard to find out where the castle would be next. The wizard and his young assist both clad in green used a giant spinning emerald to find the castle only the have the "beast" use magic to destroy the crystal. There was some magian traveling with the group, he was clumbsy and most of the time his spells didn't work right. He always seemed to change himself into something or other. He also had a really long name. Please help me find this movie. It's been driving me crazy for days.

Krull. It was an awesome movie made in 1983.
It starred Lysette Anthony as Princess Lyssa, Ken Marshall as Prince Colwyn, and Liam Neeson as Kegan.

I thought I would come back and add some of what I remember...
There was a cyclops and the history was told that the species of cyclops had given one of their eyes to a wizard or something similar for the gift of seeing the future, but all they ended up receiving was being able to forsee their own death. If they accepted their fate it would be painless, but if they ran their death would be painful...This cyclops ended up trying to helping the prince get into the traveling castle and was crushed to death.
I remember they had to catch the horses who ran and left a trail of fire and the widow in the web. The widow turned an hourglass to stop the spider and it ended up killing her.
Lyssa gave fire to Prince Colwyn at the end to kill the alien.
Very cool sci-fi movie.

It was Krull. It had Lyssa, the young red-headed princess who got captured by the beast at her wedding to a prince. He got together a rag-tag band of criminals and the old man to help him. The old man goes to the Widow of the Web to get the info on where the castle would be. It had Liam Neeson in a tiny role and Francesca Annis as the Widow. Great movie!

Krull. A great early 80's sci-fi movie. The beast lives in the black castle I believe, and he is going from planet to planet, taking them over. The soldiers that the beast uses are called slayers, and when they are killed their heads dive into the sand. It is on cable every so often, and I am sure that you can get it on amazon.com.

What an awesome movie! I remember seeing it in the theater when I was kid. How about when he stuck his hand in the boiling hot lava to retrieve the star blade weapon?? Or when the cyclops got smooshed in the rocks??? or when the spikes stuck the dudes the trap room?? or when the quicksand got the unlucky souls?? Im going to go buy it tomorrow now. Damn what a good movie! I have to have it.

One of my favorite cute movies.
The Name is
Krull and they are on a quest to find the glave (weapon) and to rescue the princess from the black tower and the beast.
The idiot magic guy kept getting his recipes mixed up and changing into animals.

Yes, it is Krull. This is a great--and underrated--fantasy movie. I saw it I don't know how many times when I was a kid.
