William,

It all depends on how much excitment you are wanting to stir up. If you try all this stuff and it still beeps, you can call the non-emergency fire department line. Talk to one of the firemen. Someone should come check it out.

It happened to us. When we called, the firemen were having a slow night. They used it for a training exercise and replaced the smoke detector for free. I doubt that happens every time, but hey, how much excitement do you want?

Worse case scenario? You ignore the thing, or hit it with a hammer and there is a fire slowly burning in your walls . . . . .

Good luck!

If it won;t stop beeping, you will have to replace it. If it is electric, I recommend you purchase one with battery back up. A little more expensive but worth your life.
Also most people don't know that smoke detectors expire after ten years and should be replaced whether you think they work or not.

Wave a fan in that direction. Our alarm goes off whenever we cook, and so we figured out a long time ago that you have to fan fresh air in that direction, and after waving for about 3 1/2 minutes, it goes off. Also turn on a fan or open a door. Hope this helps!

first clear the air! of course,, then try the reset button,, or press the test and then the reset,, you may even have to take out the battery for a few minutes to reset the alarm,, different things for different manufacturers,, but the above should stop most of the,,,,

Chances are there is something wrong with it if there isn't a fire. First I would check the battery. If it is one that plugs into the wall it is probably bad and you can buy a replacement at walmart.

You mean when replacing batteries doesn't work? The first one got smashed with a bat. The 2nd one got covered with Press & Seal wrap when a pizza in the oven set it off. Then I replaced or restored for safety purposes.
