I actually think it's not meant to be partners only. Anyone who understands and accepts you for what you are, is your soul mate. I always think my best friend is my soul mate, there is only one of her and will always be.

Totonaz, I think you need to distinguish a friend from a lover, and the "soulmate" part can make the difference. It's more tragic than wrong to discover that your lover/partner/spouse is not your soulmate. You may indeed find that someone else out there is really the one for you--and you'll know him when you find him, because everything is right--you are the best of friends with wordly interests, the best intellectual partners and the best of physical lovers. You have no doubts. This could happen in a homosexual relationship, but if you are not homosexual yourself, I would guess that your childhood friend of the same gender is something else almost as valuable as a true soulmate--your very best friend.

There is no reason that a soulmate has to be a spouse or partner. It is pretty rare, in fact. If you have a soulmate at all, count yourself fortunate.

a soulmate is a falasy. Over our life time we will have people come in and out of our lives who make us feel we are connected by our souls. If they do exist....it is brief

I believe your soul mate can be someone of the same sex. I believe my soul mate is my best friend who is another female that I have known since I was in the second grade (I am nearly 20.)

I imagine it could be an individual other than a sex partner. The soul has no gender and neither will we when we pass from this world.

Sexuality is only one component of many of the physical self. My understanding for the 'soul' is the active confluence of three general components for human being, 1) intellect, the confluence of and between ego (certainty) and anti ego (doubt) with the substance of memory, formal logic and its utility 2) the Spirit, its constituents, the emotions comprising reason or rational process, infinite in the finite, the finite is 3) experience of physical being, sensing and self sense, the express-or (expressor) for intellect and Spirit and itself.
Are sexual relations the only social relations? I think not only.
