Ever since I was thirteen, I have been keenly aware that we are constantly sizing up new people that we meet. We also show subtle signs of dominance.submission like who goes first thru a door way or who sets the conversation. It kind of like dogs sniffing each other, except we luckily do not have good noses, so we rely on body language instead. What do you think?

You learn more from a first impression than anything else. The moment you look at someone, if you mean to or not, you judge them, or are making an opinion about them. You look at their clothes, hair, face, and jugde based on them. It is not right and we all say you shouldn't and knwo it's not right, but erveryone does it. It sucks, but that is the way life is. Smart ones get the best jobs. The rich ones get breaks. The pretty people get the best spouses. It's human nature. Survival of the Fittest.

I think that only people who care about such things do so. If you are confident but not arrogant, then it really shouldn't matter if other people are trying to figure out if they rank ahead of you in some abitrary fashion. Granted, areas such as the workplace have pecking orders that are at least somewhat formalized but that doesn't really make anyone better than anyone else.

I am quite sure that the bossy know it alls do. The rest of us are happy enough with our selves and our lives not to care about such non-entities.

Depends. As adults we are only forced to submit to people at work.

My advice. Take up martial arts, and don't worry so much.
