Other than the cable being a counterfit. Yes, I got it on eBay. The TV has a DVI input and the PS3 has an HDMI out. I know something is going through, though. When I turn on the PS3, there is a flash of purple and white zig zags for about 1 second. Then blankness.

Not all HDMI cables will work with all tvs and that's a fact that the manufacturers doesn't tell you. You shouldn't even get the Monster cable since it's way overpriced. You can get a cable that cost much less than the Monster cable and it should work with your tv here http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10231&style=
Don't let the price fools you, these are high quality cables. I've had the same problem you have with my Samsung LCD and the Phillips HDMI cable until i get the cable from Monoprice.
