Funny, I just saw an interview with Howie Mandel, from Deal or No Deal last night. They look for someone who can do improv, make drama, when perhaps there is nothing dramatic going on, and who's image fits with the "style" of the show. Mandel said he turned the position down 3 times before seriously considering the offer.

Alot of game shows now are using hacked up tv show actors.

1 vs 100 uses Bob Saget from Full House

Family Feud is using John O'Hurley from Seinfeld

Show Me the Money is hosted by William Shatner.

Mostly people who have had experience in television would get the job. The only recent person to get a decent game show would be Howie Mandel.

The out-of-work actors need to audition and if they're chosen need to negotiate a contract thru their agents.
