I am trying to get to the bottom of where the space went on my laptop hard drive...I know that about 10 GB is used for formatting, but its little things that are upsetting me.

I have a program which graphs the amount of space that a folder takes up and can pinpoint files/etc that take up space. My Music on my computer (when I right click on the folder) takes up 6.92GB. However, the program says that the folder is taking up 8.4GB. The same goes for My Pictures. I right click and it says 1.80GB yet the program says 2.5.

What is taking up this space, and how can I get it back?

Problem some Hidden Folders. Click on View | Folder Options
Click on the View tab and uncheck Hide System Folders.

with some of your music comes album art. depending on how many different ablums you have they could take up the rest of the space.
