Hi. I have a rather old PC, an HP A350n. I currently have a P4 2.8ghz with HT. I was wondering since this is an old PC, can I find a 3.2 ghz processor with HT that will work for my PC? Will it be expensive?

These are my current Mobo Specs.

Would it be better replacing an onboard sound card or adding a stick of RAM?

That's not enough of an upgrade to be worth the trouble. You'd never notice the difference.

Expensive is really in the eye of the beholder, but as long as you can find a socket 478 processor it should work. your motherboard specs say it will accept anything up to a 3.2 horthwood so you shouldn't have a problem. I'd just check Tiger or Newegg and see how much they are going to be but remember you're talking a processor and fan, one without the other isn't going to do you any good.

The Pentium 4 541 3.2GHz LGA 775 Processor in the first answer is socket 775, not compatible with socket mPGA478.

A Prescott might be ok. I see your motherboard supports 800MHz Processor Front Side Bus.

Description: Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz 800MHz 1M Socket 478 Pin Prescott CPU OEM
Price: $133.50

The other answers are good, but if you haven't done this before... make certain you buy the Retail version so that it comes with the necessary heat sink and fan. If you buy a heatsink and fan separately you'll have other more complicated issues to deal with.

I'm with Mr.Nomad, there are probably other improvements you can make that will make a noticeable difference, mainly software!

I reckon. Just wait for Vista and buy a new computer.
