The water will naturally get overheated by the suns rays and cause an unsafe level of bad bacteria to breed in the tank. You basically boil your fish, and most fish do not need UV rays unless they are saltwater fish, and even then it is fltered by the deeper water. Rememebr you have basically a small biotope in there and in nature fish can sink to a lower level of the water to cool off and bioregulate themselves. They can not do that in that small of a tank.

This of it like this. Have you ever stepped in a puddle of water on a day it has been sitting in the sun? Its hot right? Same sort of pricipal, you just have glass to magnify the effect.

As well at you will eventually get the dreaded Green water that it so hard to get rid of (its aldea particles loating in the water)

The temperature would change drastically from day to night unless you had a heater. Also algea would grow and not keep your water balanced. These would be my most concerns. I have 2 very large fish aquariums and very happy fish and neither of my aquariums are located near the windows.

You can keep a fish tank near a window, just make sure you have a window covering of some kind; drapes, blinds, etc. I have one of my 55 gallon tanks in front of a window, and have never had a problem. I just keep a drape on it.

Draft, Draft, Draft.
In the Northern states this will cause a huge problem with cooler temps (even if you have a heater) the fluctuation of the heater trying to compensate is shocking the water. This is more problematic if you have an aquarium less than 45 gallons.
In the Southern states it increases the water temp (unless you have a cooler, most don't). Algae ... unless it's out of control shouldn't KILL your pets. I'm guessing it's a temp problem(fluctuating).

too much alge and too much light and too much outside air coming in on them. never put a fish tank near a window. and if your fish are dying why are you keeping them there?

Sunlight will cause the algae in the tank to reproduce and grow much faster than if your tank were not in direct light.

Sunlight makes the algae grown faster. Then you will have to clean the tank more often, because it looks nasty.

because if the sun is out and it is hot outside, it will reflect on the glass a heat up the water even more.....and if it is cold outside and or the wind is blowing you are freezing them to death!
