Beats me but it appears to be a very common misconception here on YA. I just can't get over folks who seem to believe that Spaniards, Greeks, Sicilians or the Portuguese are somehow nonwhite. That just blows my mind! They are of the "Mediterranean" subcategory of Caucasian. It's rather narrow-minded of people to think that only Anglo-Saxons or Scandinavians are white.
Skin color does not, in any way, define race. The term "white" is not really meant to be taken so literally. It is merely a synonym for Caucasian.

No body thinks, whites just call themselves white, which came about in white history during the time in the beginning of America. Whites were in control of everything, literally. So, they were more likely to choose their names. They made decisions: slavery, colonies, social orders/society, etc. Whites have made this so in their self owned American society on their invented Census bureau for racial classification. Blacks had no say in naming white people. White people excepted the term "white" by using it as a racial label. But people are their culture, before their superficial skin tone. The swift and intelligent Japanese cultures all have complexions of light or pale white to golden yellow tones. The majestic Hindu populations of India have deep carmel to deep Molasses tones.
