is it safe for a pregnant or breastfeeding woman to take the pain pill oxycodone?

Yes, it is ok as long as prescribed by a doctor. I was given tylenol with codeine, then vicodin, then percocet (which is oxycodone plus tylenol) while pregnant for migranes. It isn't a high dose, and is it supposed to be taken as sparingly as I can, but I was told as long as I am not taking it within 24 hours of delivery, or in high doses for a long portion of pregnancy, it will not harm the baby.
If you take a high dose, or for a long period of time, the baby can be addicted. If taken close to delivery, it can cause problems with the baby's breathing. But, taking a low dose, as long as you are not close to delivery should be ok. Talk to your OB.

I had some really bad kidney stones when I was 6 months pregnant with my oldest son and my ob/gyn gave me Tylox (has oxycodone in it). He said that it wouldn't hurt the baby if it was taken correctly and no more than what was needed. Always talk to your ob/gyn before taking any medicine, even OTC. Always let other Dr's or dentists know that you are pregnant before they prescribe you any medications. If someone is taking this medication excessively, then yes it can hurt the baby. The baby will be born addicted to it and will go through withdrawals after it's born. If it's excessive, it can cause learning and cognitive disabilities later in the child's life. When breastfeeding, yes I would say that it would be harmful to the baby. You are passing it through the breast milk to the baby and it will make it lethargic and make breathing shallow.

Well I just had a baby on New Years Day and it was by c-section. The doctors gave me Percocet, which is oxycodone while I was in the hospital and said it was ok to breastfeed the baby, it wouldn't hurt him. So I would say it is safe and it works great for the pain, they gave me two percocets and 1 codeine pill all at once and it works great for pain and I still breastfed. But ask your doctor if you are concerned.

oxycodone is percocet right? Well, I would not recommend that. It is safe, however, to take lorcet, which is hydrocodone. A doctor can give you a list of medications that are ok to take. If you go to the dentist, and have procedures, they usually give you hydrocodone 5's or 7.5's. I'm sure your ob/gyn will not perscribe it to you, but they do approve it when you go to the dentist or if you have been in an accident where pain medication is necessary, but only in the smallest dose.

According to "Medications & Mother's Milk" by Thomas Hale, Oxycodone is a L3 - Lactation Risk Category 3 - which means "moderately safe."

He says, "No reports of untoward effects in infants have been found although sedation is a possibility in some infants."

It is a Pregnancy Risk Category "B" which means it's fairly safe.

Talk to your caregiver, but it doesn't look like a problem in either situation.

Yes, I injured my back while I was in my first trimester and needed surgery, but obviously couldn't have it until after my daughter was born. I was on oxycodone my entire pregnancy and my OB had no problem with that whatsoever. I would obviously check with yours first, but I did it.

I doubt it, I don't think it is safe but you should call your obgyn or a pharmacist.
I assuming you got this by prescription, did that Dr know you are pregnant? Definitely check with someone first!

NO. Oxycodone is very dangerous even if your not pregnant or breast feeding.

personally, i wouldn't.
if you shouldn't even drink a beer i'm sure that kind of medication would not be a good thing either.
