See the first post and you'll get an idea why.
Our media is full of images about how hated we are in Europe - it promotes their agenda.
I've been to Europe - quite some time ago, but I found the Brits to be lovely people. The French...not so much, but once we got into small towns, they were pretty nice, too, but I DID encounter some anti-Americanism, even back then.
Cheers right back at ya!

Listen to the crap this person comes out with, she has really wound me up today. She's asked 3 questions about Europeans hating americans, saying we mistreat latinos?? we don't even call the Spanish that. I've never heared of a European saying a bad word about the Spanish. Europeans DID NOT start slavery, it's happened since time began. I am ashamed of what we have done, but every nation has wrong doings in its past!

Most europeans I talk to on the internet, no offence, seem to be amazingly anti-american and anything to do with america. Same thing with canadians.
Europe has a severe anti-americanism problem and most americans don't even know about it. Most americans think europeans like americans.

Thank you Patrick. I too feel most Americans are nice and as for the Europeans I have met, they are too. It's easy to generalize. I have never been to Europe but am looking for to vacationing over seas soon. I hope I have the same positive experience you have had while visiting here.

I have found that anyone who gives me a chance genuinely likes me. At the same time, Parisians are without a doubt the least likely to give me a chance. St. Malo has a wonderful populace that gives everyone a chance. Don't generalize too much and just be your real self. If you're a jerk, people will not like you. If not, you may find that most people do like you.

There is no reason for Europeans to hate Americans after all most Americans are of European descent and fought two world wars alongside each other..

There is a stereotype called the "Ugly American" which Americans are aware of, and may think Eruopeans attribute to them. The stereotypical "Ugly American" is the rich, bumbling, unaware tourist or business person who disdanes the ways of other people, and stupidly acts above others. They visit other countries, but interact with natives minimally; not even trying to attempt the native language or understand the customs. They are demanding and snobish... This stereotype does not really fit 99.9% of Americans, but Americans are sensitive to the opinion of others. This is because for hundreds of years America was provential; a cultural 'backwash'. Though Americans have risen above that they are not used to being among the leaders of society and fashion. We're unsure of ourselves, but want people to like and respect us. To exacerbate this fear, there really are people who hate and want to kill Americans...

I think you are right when you say Americans don't understand Europeans. What one does not know scares them. I think Americans rather have war and choose not to understand than to show any sign of weakness. Even though peace is not a weakness.

I don't think that Europe hates us. Perhaps they look down on us a bit for being foolish in war and whatnot, but the feeling's mutual... everyone does dumb things sometimes.
Cheers to you from America.
