Has anyone actually sent one back free of charge for repair if so do they actually do it free of charge?

yes! sent mine back when casing got jammed having accidentally been put thro' wash. Sent it off to "Zippo Lighter co Penn. USA' Cost about 1pound 75 p P&P. Came back 2 months later in perfect cond with comp pckt of flints and letter giving me a row for not draining the fuel! lol!

yes they do i just so happen to help someome with a zippo and watch business on ebay and there have been times when we had to have a lighter sent off and repaired and they do so for free they even use to have a penny that was a symbol of what you don't pay to have them fixed

Yes, absolutely.
They return your original case but the insert is replaced with a new one.
