Cats don't lick and kiss people as much as dogs do, and dogs are generally less interested in small, sick animals than cats are. Dogs and cats that don't get outdoors are less of a threat in this way, but they don't have as much fun, either. Finally, dogs and cats generally don't greet each other mouth-to-mouth as people often do, but I'm not sure their style is really any cleaner than ours.

Dogs salivia regenerates every two hours or so. I have heard that if you are in the woods and get cut you should let a dog lick it out to minimize the infection. I don't know it that is true or not.
I know a guy that had blood poisoning form a cat bite, cats mouths are disgusting.

Unless you've toilet-trained your cat, then a dog's mouth is definitley cleaner. Cats march through their litter boxes, then clean themselves, often using their paws. You should ALWAYS go to the doctor if you have a cat bite-they can be deadly! The bacteria can cause a horrible cellulitis infection. Two people that I know that have been bitten by cats had to have IV antibiotic treatment.

I think theyre both disgusting but any vet will tell you a dogs mouth is much cleaner than a cats. While I agree thats a cats breath is rather stank, I dont think a dogs mouth is much better....but apparently it is.

They both lick themselves clean and can't brush their own teeth so they are both pretty nasty if you ask me.
But from a bacteria perspective, cats have by far way dirtier mouths. I know this because I worked with both groomers and in vet clinics. The people who got bitten by dogs inevitably had to be treated for the puncture wounds and such. But several times the people who got bitten by cats ended up in the hospital on IV antibiotics because of the infections.

Dog for sure. You should see the abscess that forms from a cat bite compared to one from a dog bite.
