I have 2 hard drives in my computer and I want to repartition the first one because I don't really need it divided. Original hd looks like this at the moment: C:10gb system - contains all the programs, D:10gb music. I want to either change the amounts to C=15gb and D=5gb or I want to have all the 20gb on C... Which one is easier to do? And how do I do it? (Explain as much as possible) IMPORTANT:
1. I don't want to have to reinstall the windows/format. 2. I don't want to lose anything from drive C. 3. I don't care if I lose something from drive D.

I wish I could find a great freeware program to do this... but I had the same problem when my sister's laptop came with the hard drive partitioned, and not only that, but formated to FAT32!

I'm sorry to disagree with the above answer, but you CAN re-partition your hard drive, without losing data, if you use the correct utility. Partition Magic is my utility of choice.

With Partition Magic, I was able to repartition, without it messing up any data, and I was also able change the file system to NTFS and make certain it had the appropriate NTFS cluster sizes. Worked great, no problems.

repartitioning your drive will cause you to loose all your data. People just always neglect to mention that on this site!!Best bet is to transfer all data to another drive and then fdisk (in DOS)and select delete primary dos partition or however it's partitioned and then after deleting the partitions, createe a new primary dos partition and use all space for that partition (if you want just one main partition). If you want to have 15 g then you type that amount in and then creat a secondary partition and use the remaining 5 g for that. Be sure to set partition and make active also.A good way to do it is to have JUST the operating system only on one partition, that way if your OS ever becomes corrupt, you can format and fdisk and not loose your other data, music, docs and such.

the right thanks to partition a hardchronic is to apply a disk called the altimate boot cd write yourchronic t zeros. once you're attempting this Insert the homestead windows XP CD-ROM into your CD-ROMchronic or DVD-ROMchronic, or insert the first homestead windows XP Setup disk into the floppy diskchronic, and then restart the pc.each and each and every of the present walls and the unpartitioned areas are listed for each actual demanding disk. Use the ARROW keys to opt for the partition or the unpartitioned area the position you want to create a sparkling partition. Press D to delete an cutting-edge partition, or press C to create a sparkling partition with information from making use of unpartitioned area. in case you press D to delete an cutting-edge partition, you should then press L (or press enter, and then press L even if it is the equipment partition) to verify that you want to delete the partition. Repeat this step for each and each and every of the present walls that you want to apply for the recent partition. at the same time as each and each and every of the walls are deleted, opt for the perfect unpartitioned area, and then press C to create the recent partition. the element with homestead windows is that it is grasping so that you haft to provide minimum spce so i might want to take you demanding divide it in a million/2 so if persay that you've an 80GIG supply widows 20,000 for the operating equipment and save the different 60,000 for your self
