I am thinking about going to Amsterdam, and was wondering how much money I need to bring. I want to visit coffe shops, and drink tasty beverages. Can I get by on 85 bucks a day, not including lodging?

All depends on what you want to do.

I'd count
-30 dollars a day for food and drinks
-10 dollars for museums
-10 dollars for transportation
-10 dollars for coffee shops
-15 dollars for unexpected expenses

If you want to visit night clubs and strip clubs, you'll need a lot more. But normally you'll do just fine with 85 dollars.

Have a nice trip! :-)

It all depends on what you want to do. The 85 bucks out be about 63 Euros. The average cost for a drink (i.e. coffee, tea, redbull, coke) is about 3 Euros, and in most of the coffeeshops you are required to buy a drink so you can smoke there. You will spend around 10-25 Euros on each bag of "herb" which could last a day or two. The Van Gogh museum is 10 Euros (for me too expensive and it wasnt worth it) The Anne Frank house is around 8 Euros (meh, it was ok) If you go for about a week, that would be about 450 Euros, not including hostels, so yeah I think you would be fine. I just got back from there for New Years and I spent a large ammount of money, but I also did a lot of stuff. Hey may I suggest staying at FLYING PIG DOWNTOWN (www.flyingpig.nl )they are a great hostel, and I believe if you offer to help clean rooms for like 2 hours a day, they will give you cheaper lodging, just a thought! I would say if you should be fine on 85 dollars a day, just dont go tooo overboard ;) Well have fun, and good luck!
