You've got a couple of different issues here, so let's tackle them one at a time.

Construction Services:

The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.

I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* Running a Successful Construction Company by David Gerstel
* Smart Business for Contractors: A Guide to Money and the Law by Jim Kramon
* How to Succeed With Your Own Construction Business by Stephen Diller
* Construction Forms and Contracts by Craig Savage

There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.

Business Loans:

The business of lending is a dense one and should be researched properly. To get started, I suggest contacting the Small Business Administration (SBA). Entrepreneur also offers a great site dedicated to money & finance – see below for both.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the process. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* How to Get a Small Business Loan: A Banker Shows You Exactly What to Do to Get a Loan (Small Business Series, No 1) by Bryan E. Milling
* The SBA Loan Book: Get A Small Business Loan--even With Poor Credit, Weak Collateral, And No Experience by Charles H. Green
* The Insider's Guide to Small Business Loans by Dan M. Koehler

There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

You do not need a license, but it helps generate business. You can call your local Department of Treasury IRS to get an EIN(employee identification number) Indiana's is 18008294933. Once you have that and your insurance, nothing is holding you back. You will be completely legitimate. Loans aren't very easy to get due to the amount of Construction business out there, but you can try for a loan with no interest. A small business loan through your local SBA (small business association). It's not hard to start, but the advertising is what you need. The yellow pages do wonders. Those magnets on your vehicle work wonders. But don't waste your time with radio or newspaper.

do your own research. there are a lot of online searches under starting a business, mentors and business plans. Plus the library have books on starting your own business. You can also visit some of the small businesses in your area and ask questions. You have to start the research and help will come. It's totally up to you, don't give up, even when there are road blocks. Knock them down, put a hole in it and keep going!

The Small Business Administration (SBA) offers FREE counseling to entrepreneurs. You can get all kinds of start up advice directly from the organization by phone and/or in person consultations. You'll be glad you "clicked" with them online...

Start with your local CPA. They will help you find and fill out the forms you need to take care of.
