GoogleEarth is about as good as it gets. All they have done is used their vast wealth to purchase commercial imagery, which is either the best over an area or the most up-to-date.
Commercial satellite imagery is at its peak in GE; aerial photography is much better, but harder to find in the public domain, covers MUCH less of an area, and will cost you money.
If you want higher resolution from a satellite image, either wait a few years until a new satellite is launched with a finer-res camera or get yourself a job in defense.

I like Google, but how much detail do you want? I read yesterday an article about people sunbathing and the close-up, close enough to tell that's probably a human being lying on the roof there, is blurred so much that gender is not really distinguishable. But the buildings are clear, as are streets and other landmarks.
If you want more detail, you either pay or get a military clearance.

Google has some spectacular innovations as to indicate aerial viewing of relatively some land sightings. a number of that's loose, yet some will cost you to view. Have them provide you the information and then go from there. God Bless.
