The Beckham name generates a hell of lot of money per year. He is just taking his cut as any person would.
If your name made let's say £300 million a year would you be happy if they said we're going to pay you £20,000? Of course not. You would demand what you were worth!
It's the same in any job. If you do well for the company then you are paid good. If you are the star employee and make most of the money for the company then you get paid very very very good!!!

Of course he his in it for the money, what else would he be there for. This will be his last contract so he his going to make a big one.
If he his a success the club will also make alot of money endorsing his name.
Just look at Madrid they made there transfer fee back on Beckham alone by the amount of shirts they sold with his name on when first arrived there.
