did you plug it to the wrong point? usually it is the green color coded point on your computer for you to plug in the speaker wire.

Are the new speakers powered. They might need batteries, or might need to be plugged into power

Try to see whats wrong with them just go to the start menu and click on settings then control panel and then sounds and audio devices. Hope this helps and good luck ;-)
