I live in the states and when the weather changes either warmer or wetter we get small black ants in each room. In my kitchen I use vinager to wipe everything down with and that seems to keep them at bay. Sometimes if I need a quick fix I use Windex window cleaner or amonia to kill them. for some reason it kills and gets rid of them quickly. Also, Sweet and Low Sweetner was originally formulated as a ant poison, not as a substitute for sugar. If you find the point that the ants are coming in, and use some of the S&L they take it back to the nest and it kills them. Good luck with the ants, I know they are annoying and hard to keep away, but these have all worked for me and I will continue to use them myself.

The chalk don't really work, My daughter tries to do that to them outside and eventually they do walk over it. My grandmother has a old house and her house used to get infested with ants in the winter. I went around on the inside and calked all her windows, some had big gaps and some had small gaps but enough for ants to get through, i was cleaning out her closet and found big holes in the walls and a few small areas in the floor, I calked all those holes as well. Anywhere you see a tiny speck where they could come through especially if you have a older house then calk it. Get some outside bug spray and on a nice day spray around all your windows and the permiter of your house. On the inside I use a Spider spray but it works for up to 3 months and it kills ants just as well, I use it because it works great. I also found that OFF bug spray that you spray on your body to keep bugs off will kill ants pretty quickly as well and it's not that harmfull since it's made for us humans to spray on us for flying bugs.

Whereever the ants are coming in have a bottle with the lid. Punch holds in the lid and put 3 to 4 mothballs inside the bottle. Its my mother inlaws old remedy that she used for years and passed down to her family!!! You will not have ants after a few days!!!Good Luck to you!!! Also you could get borax acid and mix sugar in it and sprinkle it around where the ants come in and then no more ants except dead ants!

Try to find the ant pile and then pour several pounds of sugar on it.
White sugar will make the ants sterile so they can't reproduce, and so the whole colony will die out eventually. Not a quick but a permanent fix.

my dad taught me an old wives tale and it does actually work.....yes I have this tried and tested in my house and we dont get any ants now!.....either side of the threshold of the front door back door etc put 2 copper 2p pieces one on each side...these so I'm told course some sort of invisible field between the two coins and the ants dont like this....sounds strange but I've trusted it and its alot cheaper than keep buying nasty looking white ant powder....4p per doorway thats all...no reason why you cant do it indoors too.

Hi,
We had a similar problem when we moved in our 34 year old house. Lines of ants everywhere. But when we changed our windows and doors, they disappeared. So check for the seals.
Hope it helps.

I dislike using insecticides. Boric acid sounds nasty but is harmless to people but bad for ants. Google it. Another common remedy is grits (that's a form of ground corn, if you can get grits in Oz.)Sprinkle them around the outside of your house. The ants eat them and swell up and die. Don't pile the grits up, scatter them around. I'm told this works for fire ants, so no guarantees for other species. If you don't have fire ants, count yourself lucky. Fire ants have been known to kill cows.
You might look around outside and try to find their hills. They might be under the house. Boiling water on their hills is another commonly recommended solution.

Ants become a nuisance when they enter homes. Instead of spending money on costly pest control, you can get rid of ants by removing the food source and using soap water.
I found the information at http://www.pests.in useful.

i have the same problem, but our ants are on walls to ceiling so the mothball thing wont work.Chalk keeps them from crossing it for sometime but you have to reapply when they do.Though i dont see dead ants using chalk.I use a spray bottle with water and a few drops of dishwashing liquid. They're dead on the spot.
