I am not sure what you mean by over-rated, but I will assume it is both by a sports/athletic standard and by his public/social persona.
For one, even at 31, he is still young and can still play..and play well. No, he is not 21 anymore and I believe he knows he is getting too much bench time from his current team. Playing in America, literally virgin territory, will give him the play time that he, as an athlete, still desires. Now listen, Beckham is a fantastic businessman. He has made his face and body a comodity. Do not confuse that with anything other than what it is...a business. Do not call him a douchebag or anything else other than a businessman in that respect. His image is marketable and highly profitable. He knows this. The media attention to his has-been-nasty-thin wife and goofy-named kids are irrelevant to the business of his image. There is a BIG difference.
I am an average Joe. If Beckham comes to my city to play? Yeah, I will buy tickets. That's business. Mission accomplished for MLS.

As a player yes he is but he makes people get intrested more in soccer especially girls and he will do the same in America so its a huge gain for America even tho he is overated as a player he still has alot of talent and is a diffrence maker.

No he isn't overrated and his image is constantly used for public ads like for Gillette and Pepsi. That makes dudettes go wild and he gets tons of money. He's been the richest footballer for a while. Now he's gotten that massive 250 million dollar contract and he continues to be the richest football dude!!! And yet my answer is no... he's not overrated at all!!!
