My English teacher assigned a class debate. The topic was "Should skul holidays (e.g. summer vacation) be lengthened or shortened?" I know it is strange, but i defend for the shortened side. However, i would like to hear more opinions and ideas. Please detail.

Thanks for helping me ace the debate.

I'd argue that shortening the summer vacation would give teachers to go more in depth with their subject material instead of just teaching the minimum required. It would be most beneficial early in the school year, when the teachers could spend more time on the basics of their subject, helping those who struggled with it. If a student has trouble with the fundamentals of any subject, its more difficult to move on to the more advanced material.

shortened is a good move, because its a harder-to-argue debate, especially from a childrens point of view.

the answers I've read up there ^ are brilliantly helpful.

how about also considering the holidays from a parents point of view? the headaches of children, for example! having to take them out, entertain them..and also, their friends! and of course, the extra costs in the holidays, because you need more food at home etc.

also, for children...long holidays can be poor for health. you may spend all day lying on the sofa eating chocolate!!

yeah actually i agree w/u cuz i personally always find that after summer vacation i can never rmbr anything that i learned the yr b4. it might not be a big deal to some ppl but to me it's so aggravating, sitting there knowing ive learned it b4 but not able to rmbr how it's done (like math). it's a waste of time.

instead of having one really long break, there should be shorter breaks more spaced out cuz that way kids can sleep and have fun but not really forget that much, plus they wont hate school as much cuz there's always a "break" to look forward to (don't u ever notice how muhc better a mood ppl r in if there's a break soon?)

School breaks and holidays are already long enough. It disrupts a kid's learning pattern by having so many days off from school.

ok, that seems legi. ill defend for you. It should be shortened because kids don't get the proper education they get anymore; i mean, there are already many days off during school days

shortened vacas will give us early graduation, which gives us a chance to finish our master sooner
