Nope. They didn't have bicycle helmets back then, or if they did, nobody wore them. That's all part of learning to ride a bike. You fall, you get back on and ride. If you get a little banged up, that's what bandaids are for. It's all part of being a kid. Not wearing pads and helmets and looking dorky.

when i was a kid nobody wore helmets and i learned to ride a bike when i was 15 i always walked where i was going

When I was a kid no one wore a helmet unless you were on a motorcycle. What fun is the crashing if you don't feel it. I was a tom-boy and loved every minute of it.

My parents are stoners... THEY probably didn't want me to wear a helmet because it made me look stupid. I even used to hit 80 foot jumps on my dirt bike wearing nothing but pajama pants (commando), riding boots and sometimes my wicked sweet red K-Mart smock!
