This would mainly be to back up my files. I currently have 30GB of data on an internal hard drive that holds 75GB capacity.

Sure - get the external drive.

If you are never going to alter the file, go with DVD, otherwise choose the hard drive. Oh, and if you do go hard drive, forget 80 Gigs. 250 is the sweet spot price wise at the moment.

One other thing people do not seem to get: to back it up, you need it in more than one place. If the file only exists on one DVD, or on an external drive and no where else, it is NOT backed up.

An external hard drive will read a lot faster- it will make life a lot easier.

external drive, but consider something mobile, they come in 80g as well. it is safer, faster, and oh yes its worths it!

get a 120 because windows vista is coming out so you can get the new OS

this shouldn't even be a question. The Hard drive, duh. Anyone and everyone should know this.
