I recently watched on television the Scripps National Spelling Bee, for students up to and including 8th grade. The spellers are able to ask questions of the word pronouncer, and the one question that seems to be of most help is "What is the language of origin?" That is, the champion spellers make an educated guess on hard words they have not even heard before based on their knowledge of the spelling rules for not only English, but Latin, Greek, German, Italian, Spanish, etc.

For your basic school spelling bee, though, below is a list I found that you could have someone quiz you on. And if you don't have time to learn dozens of languages' spelling rules, just make sure you review those rules for English! Good luck!
