Nope. Laying on either side is good. Left side is better. Right side is good too.

Lay on any side you want!!!! The only thing to worry about is later n when you are like 7-9 months, when you should avoid lying on your back because the weight of the baby constricts your circulation more.

It won't hurt the baby at all. The left side is just optimum for blood flow, but not necessary. Laying on your back later in pregnancy can be bad, but it is usually too uncomfortable anyway. I try to lay on my left side, but am usually more comfy on my right, and it's no big deal at all.

by the time I was nearly full term with my daughter the only position I could comfortably lay in and still breath was on my RIGHT side.
My OB swore up and down that it would be better if I laid on the left, but my BP always went up when I did, and came down when I laid on the right side.
Plus, I couldn't breath when laying on my left side. I carried high, she was always compressing my lung capacity and laying on the left side just seemed to make me feel like I was suffocating

Yes you can lay on your right side
While it's true that lying on the left side improves placental and kidney profusion, the problem is that sometimes a woman will take it too far and end up with sores. Albright says if they have a mother with high blood pressure, they recommend that she lie on her left side for about 10 minutes twice a day. Otherwise, a woman should lie in whatever position is comfortable for her.

I've never heard of that you couldn't lay on either side. I have noticed that I am more comfortable on my left side. I will have to look it up. They say about four months you shouldn't lay on your back.

I am 19 weeks and had the same question for my Dr. He said I can lay on my right side. He said if the baby is uncomfortable, he/she will let me know, as it will make me uncomfortable.

its true, my father in law is an obgyn... there is some artery on the right side, that if you lie on your right side blood flow will not reach the baby, therefore depriving your baby of oxygen.... same with being on your back... very bad... I always flipped around in my sleep though, I had to buy one of those body pillows to help keep me on my left side at night. Talk with your obgyn though- and goodluck mommy!!!!

You're kidding right - woman can work at their jobs, raise children (if you have toddlers) and chase after them, exercise, do housework, yadda yadda yadda all during the entire duration of their pregnancies and you think that it's not safe to sleep on your right side? Not trying to be rude but how old are you?
