Why is there rust in my toilet bowl?

There's apparently iron in your water? Do you have city water or well water? SnoBowl will clear it right up, as well as The Works.

The rust is from iron pipes or fixtures somewhere in the water line between the water's source and your toilet bowl or you have a well that's in iron ore.

Two options in my experience:

1) Hard water: water with lots of iron in it can leave this in your bowl.
2) Not enough flushing: leaving urine in your toilet can cause a rust-like stain.

The fire dept may have open a hydrant at the street or you may have steel or galvanized pipes if your house is older that 50 years.

could have iron in your water or someone urinated and did not flush the toilet!!!
