There is a software on the market that you can tell it what key the song is supposed to be sung in, and it will fix the singer's voice whenever it is off pitch. It's really amazing and explains a lot of these high on looks/low on talent singers.
Look at the singers of the 60s, 70s, even 80s. Plenty of them were average looking... heavens look at ole Janis Joplin, she'd not even be allowed to sing in a bar now. But, they could all sing. There were no sound men around to fix their voice in the studio so either they had the pipes, or they didn't get paid.
Look at the singers now. Every one of them looks like they stepped out of a magazine. I'm not buyin that all of the sudden, people started being born with amazing vocals AND looks when they sure weren't in the past decades. Now, if you do not have the right look or are over 25, you can pretty much forget about ever becoming a singer.

There are only a very small protion of singers today who actually have real vocal talent without the back-up of studio proto-tools to enhance their voice. Singers like Christina Aguilera, Beyonce, Mary J.Blige, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and a few others can sing their @sses off without the back-up off studio enchancement. Most of todays singers cant sing for diddly squat. As some of the posters said above most of todays singers are signed by record labels cause of their cute and pretty faces and nice bodies. Record lables these days dont give a rats **** about real talent only about looks cause sex sells records. No wonder why theres so much crappy music on the radios these days. Record labels are all about looks not real talent.

Certainly. It is been corrupted - identical to pop has been engulfed by way of hip-hop, nation has been diluted via pop. I'm inclined to cut Jewel just a little slack for the reason that she truly writes her own stuff, lives in the south and is a cowboy's sweetheart, however the others irritate me to no finish. Incidentally, has anyone heard a fiddle these days? How about a steel guitar? Am I imagining matters or have they long past MIA? When I get too uninterested, I put in some George Strait, or hearken to "long time long gone" and "murder on music Row." Too bad about the Dixie Chicks - they fairly would have ushered in a brand new wave of bluegrass-influenced artists with "residence" if Maines had simply saved her dang lure from flapping a lot. We're undoubtedly on a steep slide down, even from the late '90s. I suppose as long as George and Alan are round, we are going to be all proper.

I agree with you. Ya know Brooke Hogan? I don't think she can sing at all! Neither can Rihanna or Cassie, Paula DeAnda, and basically all the other singers. I honestly think, that Amy Lee can sing, though, and she is one of today's singers.

Ya they definatelly pick singers for their looks and not tallent, I have wanted to be a singer since i was 5, but because im not pretty i do not have a chance. I m in the choir at my school and a lot of the kids are awesome at singing, but about half of them are not pretty so if they even went into the music buissness they wouldn't do well. :( thats how things are these days and it sucks!!

No. Nowadays, teen starlets and pop princesses are chosen for labels because of their pretty faces, not talent. With computers, you can program in the notes of a song, and it will change the awful voice of the singer to sound in tune. That's why many singers sound so terrible live.

Singers like Christina, Kelly, Beyonce and JoJo can sang their butts off but rihanna, cassie, ciara, and ashanti wouldn't even make it on american idol.

I totally agree with you. Ever heard Fergie or Nelly Furtado live? Don't. it's all awful, and you are so right. If it was about talent, none of these people would be famous. They're just good loooking. Only a few can actually sing. and one of them is Shakira.

Being a great singer doesn't seem to be a strong emphasis for someone to become a singer lately.
