Depending on your needs, other things may be more important to you than space and webmail. Maybe POP3 or IMAP access. Spam/virus filtering (or the opposite, ability to receive EVERYTHING). Servers reliability. Access to procmail for server side automatic processing. Ability to use with your own domain. Etc...

The best free email accounts are Gmail, yahoo, and Hotmail (live)... those three have more than enough space and great interface.... You just choose depending what your friends and family have.... I like Yahoo email account so that I can use Yahoo answers, yahoo games, and other services of that sort... I use Hotmail because I love MSN Messenger, I think it is the best messenger out there... and I use Gmail because it is unique and still not that famous, I used just to subscribe and get all the spam there...
