Or is it just that the media runs these stories to satify breathless demand for such? And this magnifies the situation and makes it seem like they happen more frequently. Please point to stats.

Child Abduction Statistics Facts
The Increase in missing children since 1982 is 444%.
Most abductions are done by luring children to a vehicle rather than taking them by force, about half were 4 to 11 years old.
74% were girls.
According to the Vanished Children's Alliance, every 40 seconds another child is missing or abducted.

This is obviously a major problems, despite harsher laws for child predators.
There is no law too harsh for the ones that prey on our children.

It's equally so. They appear to be more because the media only now reports on it and does over emphasise most times and, also because kiddie lovers are so looked after and barely punised by governments(Australia) that they nolonger hide but come right out without fear of persecution.
