Is there any situation in which being sewn to a couch could save someone's life?

Hypothetical debate and I'm having trouble thinking of examples. no one will actually be sewn to a couch.

Do you know I really cannot for the life of me come up with a sensible answer to this one. :)

No, actually, maybe I can.

Let's say that someone has to be operated on, or for some other reason they have to be kept still for their own good (if they move they break their legs or hurt themselves or something). You are on your own with them, they cannot help themselves to keep still and all you have is a giant sewing kit, a couch and no means of splinting them. Then maybe, just maybe you could sew them to the couch.

No it's no good, this ranks as the strangest question I've EVER heard. Come on, this has been asked to settle a pub argument hasn't it. Please tell me you don't sit at home in your room thinking things like this up!?

What if the person was allergic to everything except couch stuffing? Or they'd been told if they didn't stay on the couch they'd get shot or you knew the room was going to get a sudden attack of reverse gravity and had to improvise?

I know of a young man that was at a party, he had drank way too much and was passed out on a couch, someone could have sewn him to a couch and he would have never known it, he wasn't sewn to anything, he came to and decided to drive home, he and his friend who also had too much to drink headed down the road, got a few miles away and rolled over several times, the passenger died, the driver didn't. They should have both been sewn to a couch. Hope this answers your question. Those who let them get on the road wish they had an idea like this and a needle and thread.

I've never heard of this happening, but there were some people in my college dorm that sewed a drunk guy into his bed with dental floss. Let's just say he wasn't happy when he woke up and needed to go to the bathroom.

First, if you think of someone being sewn to an entire couch:
--If there were high winds or a tornado, they might be too heavy for the wind to pick up and carry off.
--If someone came to push them out a window, then they would certainly be too large to fit through.

But let's say that they were sewn to a couch, but could stand up, attached to only a cushion or two. This could save their lives if:
--They were pushed from a height and the cushion broke their fall.
--There was a fire and the flame-retardent upholstery protected them from being set on fire.
--Someone tried to stab them, and the cushion provided a barrier.

All right, so I have too much free time and an overactive imagination. :)

The only thing that I can think of is if they were suicidal or had self-destructive tendencies (such as an overpowering desire to play on the freeway during rush hour).

ADDENDUM: It could also prevent a guy from catching a sexually transmitted disease or becoming HIV positive because, trust me, I don't think any woman would have sex with a guy sewn to a couch. Talk about being the ultimate couch potato! LOL!

I very highly doubt it. I can't imagine anyone being sewn to anything bigger than them is in anyway a healthy thing or could save there life. If this does happen it will probably go in the guiness book of world records.
