Why are there so many stupid people in the world?

Serious question. Why?

It seems there are more people than not who are suicidally clueless about whats going on around them, in both the direct personal ways, and on a greater level.

I don't get it. Some of the things people say and believe are so asanine that it boggles the mind. People believe things of which there is absolutly no tangible evidence, and others believe things that any rational, logical person would laugh (or shudder) at.

Is the general intelligence of humanity declining as fast as it appears, or are peoples actions the result of excessive gratification?

Hell Yeah! You are dead on right. Common sense seems to be almost dead and more and more people cannot function on their own at all.

Well the decline comes from the fact that everyone's looking for the quick buck ... no need to be educated and think any more
add to that a society afraid to discipline and correct the behavior of the young ... and the young believe they know it all ... unfortunately it's not always the case ... parents some times hand over things on a silver platter and kids have no reason to work for anything at all ... life is simple easy and good ... at least for a while. become a rock star, sports star, sue somebody ... none of this takes any intelligence ... however how many have had their managers take off with bundles of cash, and no one kept track of the money ...

its simple and easy ... and tv is helping it all along ...

sorry if this seemed like a rant but I agree there's a definite problem in todays world ... we're being beat and not even paying attention to it.

What is or is not rational is a wholly subjective thing. Just because you believe that a certain opinion is more rational doesn't mean that you are right. Also, you must remember that all people take what they believe on faith. Just because a scientist says something doesn't make it true. And even if what he says is true, you have not tested it for yourself. You can't truly know anything without checking it out for yourself. So, most of what you believe is faith in someone elses opinion. Besides that, you could be insane. If you are, would you know it? How would that effect your opinions? In the end, I try to respect other peoples points of view. After all, how do I really know that even their most ridiculous ideas aren't the truth?

I believe that people have slowly evolved into this society we have now which consists largely of religious, ignorant, close-minded conservatives who are absolutely clueless. It may be due to too much inbreeding I dunno. I agree that it makes no sense to believe in something of which there is no tangible evidence. I can see why kids believe in things. Parents teach the kids when they are little to believe in Santa, tooth fairies and the Easter Bunny. You would think though that after kids find out those things are not real but are made up by their parents that they would question the existence of God.

There is absolutely no proof of God and people fight over so many issues because of their various forms of God and how they feel he or she would feel about how society should be. God was created to instill fear in people so they wouldn't do bad things as well as to make the concept of dying easier. If you believe that Heaven exists after death it makes dying more acceptable and less scary. That's the way I see it anyway...

Societies and cultures have changed, exponentially, throughout history. The Earth's populations have been "dumbed down" and kept alive by television, radio, video games, exploitation, religion, "better health care," etc.

These people breed...and breed.

Thus, "common sense," empathy, manners, courtesy, concern for this planet, etc., are being eliminated. Stupidity is not about greed. It's about over-population and messing with nature.

Most people work their 9 to 5, come home and put on the TV. Entertainment is their opiate. They don't inquire about current conditions, they don't even want to watch the news. I've seen it in my neighborhood. The only thing they know about is sports and "Desperate Housewives" Unless we get involved, nothing in this world will change.

Lack of chance at a younger age to learn how rewarding doing something instead of the everyday 9 to 5 and watching tv can be.

In old times these people were weeded out by nature. Now the governments are taking car of them. We are breeding these people in welfare and with rich parents giving kids everything. In old days if you did not put up food for winter or work to pay for what you needed you starved. From ancient times up stupid people were weeded out this way. In fourth and fifth would countries they still are. Machinery did not have to be idiot proof. So idiots got hurt and killed to weed them out. Now they are laws where these machines have to be gaurded and cannot do thier job. Of course some good had accidents too. Remember in early days of the us when building projects they almost planned for so many to get killed doing the work.

And why does this bother you? Why do you care if others are not as smart as you think you are. If you don't like what others around you are saying then find someone who can relate to you on your level. I think your just pissed because others don't agree with your point of view. You are going to have to change the way you think in order to survive in this mindless world.
