im glossophobic(fear of speaking in public), and i get very anthropophobic(fear of people, especially in groups), well more like im agoraphobic(fear of big crowds) when there is big crowds there watchin me, and only me, and there not my friends or family and such. and i have to do this huge speech for the school, for the soccer team, since im the soccer captain, about 20 minutes long. so im like..i cant do it. but i have to. and i get panic attacks, i get anxious, jumpy, and such when my phobias kick in. but i dont want to tell my coach about it, cause i dont want anyone to know i have all these phobias, and only my parents know about them(since im fairly popular, and i dont want the whole school thinking im some weird phyco case), because i usualy can keep these feelings down, but..its..a whole speech? i cant do it....

what to do? should i skip the day(though the coach's gona kill me with death rounds, and i dont really want that)?

or whats your idea?

Find someone like a friend that is in the room and when you look up look at them they will make you smile and take your mind off of everything. Remember your not the onlyone who is going to be nervous up there just do your best it will all right. There will be some more nervous than you are trust me I been there done that as well. I just found a friend and looked at them each time I had to get up to speak they made me comfortable. They also did the same thing when they got up to speak there are far more people in that class and many other who are just like you but find a comfortable part of the room and look that way glance around and go back to that comfort part of the room. You have to think positive you can do it.

Don't be scared. I know it's hard, but u can do it. I know u can ! Just try to not look at the people who are probably not even listening to you. Or just tell your parents that you are scared, and tell them to tell your coach that you had a pain in your belly. It will work. He can't punish you for being sick. Try to get out on some way, but practice speaking in front of your mirror or your team, and friends. I totally understand u. We all have some fears. Some are afraid of spiders, some of high places, some of small places. Your phobias will pass, trust me! You can do it !!!

I would ask your doctor for a breakthrough anxiety pill. Have you ever gone to a real MD instead of a psychologist??

Have you ever spoken in public before? It is scary as heck to know you are gonna do it. Once you do it, I bet that you will not let it be as big of a thing for you. But I would ask your doctor for a prescription of xanax or something. Try not to skip that day.

just go through it. i am just like you and one time i had to say a poem if front of the whole school, i was really embarrassed. when i was in front of the big crowd i didn't think about anything, i was just reading what i had to say. after i was done i started to feel the embarrassment, but it was already over. don't put people down.

ask someone you trust to sit in the first row (tell your coach you need them there for your phobia).
Prior to the speech, practice giving it to this person, one on one and make as much direct eye contact with them as you can.
then, on the day of the speech, look directly at this person and give your speech, just as you did in practice. don't look at anyone else. It also helps to imagine that everyone in the crowd is naked, except you...
